[RESOLVED] Variable Scope Question

Hello!

I'm trying to set up a payment page where I have some data in $variables, I post part of that info to a credit card validation page and receive a POST back to a "Thank you" page telling me the transaction was completed (or not). If the transaction was successful, I would then take the information from the payment page (the first page in this chain) and write it to a sales table.

My question is will the original $variables still be "alive" and accessible by the final page for the table write?

if you use session variables to carry them between pages yes

NO. If I define $variables in one script, these values will disappear when the script ends unless I use some kind of persistence mechanism like a database, a file, or session capabilities.

Try reading about sessions.

Thanks for the replies. It looks like SESSIONS is it. I have, however, one other (probably stupid) question regarding SESSIONS:

I assume the data is unique to the user whose browser is running the script. That is, if another user logs onto the site and begins another transaction at the same time he starts another unique session. Am I correct?

Yes, you are. The session exists between the server and the client. Different client, different session.
