PHP & DIV's

Hi there,

I was wondering if anyone knew how I would grab just one DIV or Class name from a HTML page imported from another site. I have the HTML in a string but just want to cut the rest out and grab the DIV that I need.

Any help would be great!

Say I would like to pull this from a complete web page:

How could I do that, by referring to DIV id or class name. It's bugging me! It would make my day if some could tell me 🙂

Im getting a load of errors such as DOMDocument::loadHTML() Tag metal invalid in Entity, Opening and ending tag mismatch: div and td in Entity, Tag nobr invalid in Entity. Any ideas why that is?

well you said you already had the html in a string so do this:

just replace $string with your variable that holds the html

You've well helped me out here!! Im dragging a page from another site, all that works now, but from some reason doesn't pull in the formatting, say the description has list styles etc. Is there anyway around that?

so you want the contents of the div including the html elements within it?

Yeah just for the descriptions. Is that possible? I can't describe how much you've helped me out mate!

well nodeValue strips all the stuff

it might just be easier to do some string manipulation and delete the opening and closing div tags stuff

So there's no way around it? What you suggested has been the easiest I've come across so far. When you start stripping all the DIV stuff it gets complicated!

well not really... you how long the start and end tags are... just use [man]substr[/man]

Yes, grotty HTML. What sort of HTML has a "<metal>" element? Sure it's not "meta" - or maybe it's meant to be "meta" but the site's author got it wrong. What site is this?

So there's no way around it?

You could replace

        echo $nodes->nodeValue;

with

        echo $doc->saveXML($nodes);

see if that's any better.

Why do you need to go to such contortions to get this information?
