hosting, more than 25 mysql connections?

HI, I have been looking for the hosting solutions for a year. stolzyboy and other friends have given me good advices on my other threads.

Now, I refer my clients (php developing) to host with hostgator business package thanks for stolzyboy's information. So far so good. Their cpanel set up and their tech support are good. I got ssh access if I need it. They use suphp, so the php runs as the user itself. Satisfy almost all my requirements.

But one limitation, hostgator only allows 25 mysql connections per cpanel account. It is ok for most of my client's sites.

But if for a busy social networking forum, 25 mysql connections per cpanel account may not be good enough.

For these sites, I need some hosting company offer the same convenient control panel and good tech support like hostgator, but will give much more mysql connections on the shared hosting package if I need, I am willing to pay for the extra mysql connections. Which hosting would do that?

Why not try negotiating with hostgator first? After all, if you are willing to pay extra, maybe all you need to do is pay them extra.

They cannot change it. It is their universal set up for cpanel. Someone already complained a long time ago that 25 connections are not enough.

Unless I get the dedicated server. But only for database connections to get a server is overkilled.

So far my sites are OK. But my new projects with social networking applications, I think I will for sure need more connections.

Another solution is get a remote mysql from other hosting if there is one offer mysql hosting cheaper. But the performance might be hurt if I host web sites in hostgator and database somewhere else.

25 simul connections is enough typically for 600 online users at once. It's hard to use all those connections as the connections are only open to connect and retrieve, then close once done. Obviously this depends on the application itself, but its typically safe for most applications.

You should've gotten a dedicated server and resold to your clients and then you could control the connections. ;-)
