Okay Im tryen to do a sql search in php

Okay here is what im tryen to do and don't have the first clue where to start....

I am tryen to search a sql table that has 3 fields..two contain a high and low number and the third one contains the corresponding value. What i have is a form from which i can submit a number that falls in this range and i want to return that 3rd column value?

Any suggestion will greatly be appreciated. Also if ur lost let me know I will try to explain myself better.

schematic:

if(isset($_POST["the_value"]))

$the_value=(int)$_POST["the_value"];

$sql="SELECT * FROM table WHERE lower_field>$the_value AND higher_field<$the_value";

// and the results print comes here...

}

there is a mysql command: BETWEEN , see into the manual, you can make this condition in one step.
