Hi,

I was wondering if we can rollback a file when we encounter some errors.

Considering a scenario:

In the excel sheet that I am trying to upload,suppose there are 10 TCs and there is an error (illegal character) in 5th TC.

So,the tool shows an error.
Now,if I correct this error and upload the excel file again,TC1-TC4 are duplicated.
Can we roll back the entire transaction till the point it encounters errors?

I am a newbie in php.

Please help.

not very clear what your tying to achieve , but you can check for duplicates numerous ways. Or delete existing data and reimport.

I am using the RTH tool.

Here we have an option for uploading excel sheets.
Now,in this scenario.Suppose we encounter an error(say some illegal charatcer) in the 5th test-case.
An appropriate error is thrown.

The changes are made and the excel sheet is imported again.

Now,the test-case 1-4 had already been imported to the DB.So,duplicate entries are seen.

Can we check for duplicate entries,like whether they have been uploaded or not.If they have been,then do not upload them again.

I hope I am making some sense 🙂

The import into the database should be done as part of a transaction. If there is an error during import, roll back that transaction.

Alternatively, check for badness before starting the import.

Sorry, I don't know what "the RTH" tool is.

Make sure there are no errors in the data to be imported. If there are, fix them. If there aren't then it's safe to import.

One way to do this might be to set up a separate empty table with the same structure and attempt to import the data. Every time it fails, empty the table, fix the problem with the data, and try again. Once you manage to import everything, you can just copy the records from the temporary table over to the real table.

It's a hassle, but all the mucking around with temporary tables can be avoided if you let the database manage it for you by using transactions.
