How to get connected clients?

Hello everyone.

This is my first post of many to come.

I have a router built under Linux Debian and I would like to create a PHP script that would show connected users, just like wireless routers do for example. Don't know where to start or how to find out what users are connected. I did netstat -na | grep ESTABLISHED but, that tells you only those users currently with established connections. Oh, by the way, I also have squid installed doing transparent proxy.

Does anyone have an idea on how can I accomplish this with LAMP.
