A little java with php..

Ok. I know this is a PHP forum, but I am sure some of you guys might could help out.

I see websites do this stuff all the time, and I THINK it is java.

Like.. if your submitting a comment to a post or article, etc... When you click submit, it will say "Your comment has been submitted" without changing pages or anything.

Is this javascript? Is this kind of stuff fairly easy to do?

Since you said "without changing pages or anything" I'm guessing it's Asynchronous Javascript and XML (AJAX). Google it or look it up on Wikipedia. There are a number of components at play:
HTML - this is what displays the form (the inputs, button, etc).
Javascript - to send data from the page loaded in your browser to a server, your browser needs to support a client-side scripting language. javascript is the world champion in this category, although there are others. The whole trick here is that Javascript supports the creation of an XMLHTTPRequest object which lets you talk to a server without reloading your whole page.
* PHP/Java/ASP/etc. is the scripting language that runs on your server and handles any data you submit with a form and sends back a a response like "your comment has been submitted".

Yeah, what he's referring to is Ajax obviously. When you say fairly easy, that's a pretty vague term. I wouldn't say it was beginner JavaScript.
