How do i add style sheets to that html email code that i was given in the link below?

You would include it just like in any other HTML web page.

However, most modern email clients block remote scripts (mainly used for email open tracking) so you should inline the styles.

yes, in many cases for all the different email clients you need to keep your html old school...when i code for emails i will use tables and inline styles...i will also keep inline styles to a minimum.

Well ... if you're going old school then you have to take into account the fact that many people still use (and prefer to use) plain text for their emails. 90% of the time HTML adds nothing of value.

its easy, and recommended to include a plain text version with the html, reduces the spam score and means the 1% people still in the last century still get content.

In the case of plain text........isn't it impossible to have a link in the email? Lets say something for paypal for people to pay via the email. and have the paypal link in plain text will look way too long and annoying for the customer.

I have an idea to give my customers a different link in the plain text email and then redirect that link elsewhere.

Thanks for reminding me about style sheets in html emails being old school. I have done it a few years ago but just didn't get round to do it now. I let ye know. Hopefully without any problems.

Kudose has already mentioned in another of your threads that most email clients these days will recognise links in text and make them clickable. For those that don't there's this magical thing called "copy and paste" that users can do. I think, given that, a claim of "too long and annoying" is hard to justify. But your idea of generating your own (shorter) link that just acts as a redirect works as well - you get an extra datum from it too (i.e., that they clicked the link).

yeah...old school html solved the problem with my style sheets. Sorry i didn't read that other thread properly. i think i'm stickin to this one as i have more replys here.

now i have 2 problems as i can't see my plain text email:

1) about the links. Can i use

<a href="">linl</a>

or just www.xxxxx.com for plain text links? I ask this ecause if it doesn't accept <a href ="www.xxxxx.com">link</a> then the email should show the link address and the link name together e.g www.xxxxx.comlink. and will not look right at all.

2) is the php being embedded into the plain text email from online. Can this be allowed? If i use the following code online:

<?php echo $_POST ['name']?>
//or
<?php echo $name?>

As i'm using echo, will the text be embedded online before it reaches the plain text email? so the info will easily be displayed.

If the email is sent out in plain text and you incluce the A tag, the A tag will show and the plain text version of the link will probably be converted into a clickable link. You're best bet is to just insert the URL without the A tag. I am pretty sure there isn't a email client that says "Oh you sent an HTML tag in a plain text email, so lets just convert the email to HTML for you"
You should use $_POST['name'] instead of $name unless you have [man]extract[/man]ed the values. Yes, if you create a string to send off in the message and a variable is embedded, the variable will be translated before the message is sent.

i.e.

<?php
$to = 'me@you.com';
$subj = 'Test';
$name = $_POST['name'];
$msg = "This is a test for $name.";
mail($to, $subj, $msg, "FROM: Me <me@me.com>\r\n");
