sending email trouble with php

Would anyone have a good recommendation for a tutorial of writing a php script to email. I haven't had any need in the past to email with php until now and not familiar with it. I've attempted to set up a basic script going with the advice in the link below but its a bit old and my script won't execute it at all.

The email account doesn't matter as much to me so gmail, hotmail, yahoo would work, I have all accounts. I just need to send an update to myself from email.

I'm running apache server on my computer with latest php. any help would be greatly appreciated. thanks! 🙂

no problem, i was able to check out the link you provided on your post earlier. not exactly what i was looking for but cool site nonetheless.

anyone else have any advice or direction that might be helpful?

you can use the imap functions to connect to mail boxes, read / delete messages.

you can find examples on php.net

I suggest try the previous program on a "real" webserver, there are differences between home and public servers.

thanks, ill browse some more examples and see what i can come up with from there. Is it just more difficult to do from a home server? I'd prefer to if I can since I have it all set up already.

phpmailer should be working on a live server. First try it then search another solution to send mails. i use imap on gmail to read mails, but its not working from my local server (maybe my router blocks it)
