Selecting WHERE DATE_FORMAT()?

Hi,

I'm trying to select rows from a table where the date equals the year and month only. In other words, it drops the day.

Here's the basic idea:

$searchdate = '2008-04';

$query = mysql_query("SELECT * FROM cart 
WHERE DATE_FORMAT(date, '%Y-%m') AS date='$searchdate'")
or die(mysql_error());

What am I doing wrong?

I think that it should be:

$searchdate = '2008-04';

$query = mysql_query("SELECT * FROM cart
WHERE DATE_FORMAT(date, '&#37;Y-%m')='$searchdate'")
or die(mysql_error());

Dude, that's some freaky stuff.

If there was such a place as Hell, I think it would be more appealing than being transformed into a shell script and living out my remaining years in utter frustration and misery.

So I beg you: have compassion on me and tell me what must I do to avoid such a terrible fate?

What does the php witch consider "bad behavior", that I may avoid it like the plague?
