not sure if this would qualify as a newbie question i've been doing this for a little while but have not submitted to anything but the newbie forum because i consider myself to still be one.

all that being said here is my question

can anyone tell me how to keep people from seeing my file structure in my website. they are able to see all of my php pages and i need to block that. maybe this is not the right place for that question but i'm kinda desperate to fix this and am looking for any kind of direction i can get.

What do you mean by "they are able to see all of my php pages and i need to block that"? If you mean that you want to prevent directory listing, then the solution is to disable it in your web server configuration, or put say a index.html file in each applicable directory.

The easiest option (as Laserlight already said) is to add a new file in the directory and name it index.html .You don't have to write anything in it,just leave it blank.

I don't know about "easiest" - I think laserlight mentioned it last because it was the non-preferred solution.

The most efficient solution would be laserlight's first solution - alter the webserver's configuration. If using Apache with .htaccess enabled, it could be as simple as putting this:

Options -Indexes

in a .htaccess file in the root of your site (or the directory/directories you want).
