Can one install fonts on a web server?

Hi,
I found that installing the Encoding UTF-8 on my laptop solved the problem with characters that could otherwise not be displayed as well as ugly spaces in the middle of words. But when I copy from local to the internet site, I still get those squares that denote undisplayable characters.
Can one install fonts on a web server or are available fonts only those residing on a client?

while you can install fonts on a web server it sounds like your issue is with browser\page encoding.

<meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=utf-8" />

for the web page is a start, and make sure your editor is saving files as utf-e, and the browser (view->character encoding) is set to utf8

You are right, the issue is about Encoding and I will try your suggestion.
However, there is something I still do not understand.
What is the purpose of installing fonts on a server?
If I install font-A on the server, would it enable a client's browser to display the page with that font even if it has no font-A installed locally? If not, then why would one install fonts on a server?

Witting captchas' needs a font on the server. But your right that its client side font issues in most cases.
