Setting Timezones

Hi,

For the program I'm developing, I want to let the administrator set their timezone.

Originally, I was thinking I would just have them set an INTERVAL number, which would correspond to their timezone... but then I considered that depending on where their server is, this may be different.

Is that correct?

If so, what alternatives are there?

For example, how did vBulletin accomplish this?

If using PHP 5.1.0 or later (and if not, why?), you can use the [man]date_default_timezone_set/man function.

Maybe some people use earlier versions of php.

For example, take vBulletin...

How do you think they coded their timezones?

Bascially, that's the same idea I'm going after.
