going insane need help plz

hi there,

i am completely new to php and i am having problems with the getting things setup.

i host my own website and i got the idea that i wanted a forum for my website, the forum i want to use is called SMF this is a free script from :

i need to use php and mysql.

i have spent a silly amount of days trying to get this all setup but i am having problems, i managed to configure the php.ini file for mysql support but had problems installing the script for the forum, now i am not sure where i have gone wrong. When i start the installation of teh script i get the same information on the screen twice and i would like to know if i have configured the php.ini incorrectly or not, as i am also having problems getting the script to connect to the mysql database.

I am using Liteserve 2.8 as my webserver, ftp and email server.

and i am using mysql server 5

PHP Version 5.2.9-2

I have uninstalled mysql and reinstalled in the off chance i messed the installation up and now i have uninstalled the php and just reinstalled php just need to configure the php.ini file.

could anyone give me any advice on what i may doing wrong please.

I would give up and just move to a more popular (& therefor more resources for newbs) forum like phpbb or vbulletin

i have just reinstalled a preconfigured copy of php, but when i do a phpinfo test it does not list mysql enabled, although the mysql.dll is uncommented ? any idea's not sure what i have missed out

Check out the "sticky" posts here in both the "Install" and "Database" forums for info on getting MySQL to work with PHP 5.

nothing wrong with SMF - takes an hour or two to set up, though forum is oversubscribed and under-replied
but as nogdog says you have other problems that must be fixed first

I have tried reinstalling php again and mysql, it feels like i a going round in circles, going mad i have been at this for nearly 2 F****** weeks now not good, this was just an idea i had turning into a nightmare. if anyone has any free time and would be able to help i would be gratefull, i cant offer any money for professional help but i do have a lot of random stuff on my server i am willing to share. not sure if it would be of any use or interest. lol keeps me quite. thanks in advance.... person now certified as insane.
