Can't change font size within PHP code

Here's a snippet of my code. I can't for the life of me work out where to put the font size instruction, could someone point me in the right direction? Thanks

Strictly speaking, you should be using CSS styling for visual appearance, either via in-line style attributes...

<td style=\"text-align:center; vertical-align:middle: font:10pt arial, sans-serif; background-color:$temp\">

...or better yet, just assign the HTML element a class, then define the display attributes for that class in your CSS stylesheet for that page.
