Please help with "Undefined variable"

Hello all,

I am here begging for help with this chunk of code.

I have a form that was created with phpformgenerator,
and I have a need to send email to a specific address
based on a selection made. So, I have this as the email
processing script...

When the form is accessed, and the selected user is either tom or bob,
it writes two errors in my log file ....

PHP Notice: Undefined variable: field_5 in /var/www/html/processor2.php on line 3
PHP Notice: Undefined variable: field_5 in /var/www/html/processor2.php on line 19

It will still send email, but not to the correct address. It uses the last
email "[e-mail]" . When in fact, I would like it to send to the
correct email address based on the selection from the drop down box.
I am hoping that one of the brilliant PHP experts can look at this and
see what is wrong. I have not included the form.html, it is much longer.

If requested, I will certainly post it.

in your checks you should be using

if(isset(VARIABLE) and VARIABLE==VALUE)
{

}

replace VARIABLE with your field variables and the VALUE with what you are checking against

if you try to see if a variable that doesnt exist equals something youll get that error... by checking its existance with exists() youll take care of that

Thank you so much for taking the time to correct that for me. It worked like a charm. I no longer am getting those errors. Could you offer a little more assistance with getting the correct email to be sent? When I select the "tom" from the drop down box in my form, and submit, it still defaults to the last email address "[e-mail]" instead of sending to "[e-mail]".

surely, can you post your updated code between the boards [ php][/php ] tags?

You're using the straight variable in your conditional ("$field_5"), but referring to it later in the body as "$POST['field_5']". If you're coming straight from hitting the Submit button on your form (and register globals is on, which it shouldn't be), then $field_5 is a blank variable. Swap if for $POST['field_5'] and it should work.

Unless you've assigned $field_5 elsewhere in the script, that is. If that's the case, ignore everything I just typed.

then you can use this populated $mail value into the mail function as mail-to parameter.
