Hello. Im new to your forums and thought I'd intorduce myself. I'm looking forward to chatting with all of you and learning new things. Just please forgive my typos. 🙂
Welcome, Rachel. Don't forget to check out the "sticky" posts at the tops of the General forum and any other forums that interest you here, just to get the hang of how things work here, frequently asked questions, etc.
Thx! Ill do that. I'm still trying to find my footing here.
ah yes welcome, mi casa es su casa
Thx for the welcomes I hope to learn a lot here.
What's your background, new to PHP, programming, or just this site?
My background? Wedding Coordinator :-) Ive always found computers interesting though. All the behind the scenes stuff. That's why I joined this board. I wanted to learn more about them besides word and excel. But r3eading more threads I think I'm in over my head. You all are extremely technical :-)
Yeah most programmer I know dont just pick it up from cold. They usually have a background dealing with computers. For example I went from hardware and networking diagnostic repair to simple software design to now web development, so it was slow journey into programming that covered alot of background info I find very useful now. It's tough to start cold but its definately doable, you'll bang your head up against the walls at times but once you get a sense for how things work you will find most of the time things are really done the most common sense approach
Thx, rulian. Im not lookin to build sites, I want to know more how computers work so if I want to build something small for myself here at home I can, like a database. I'd also like to know how they work so I can protect myself while on the internet espeically wiht all the identity theft going on.
Hey and welcome.

PHP is for programming the web server, though, so we're pretty much dealing with web applications only. If you're interested in programming computers in general, I'd suggest taking a look at C/C++ or Java instead.

Oh, ok. Thx! I will look into that.
Well, if you want to understand simply the generals of computer and networking, your really looking into Computer Building and Repair 101. I think going into programming without knowing how a computer works will confuse you more then help you.
Let me suggest you try joining some forums on assembler...
Thx everyone for your tips and suggestions. I appreciate them all.
