split string into 2 vars

I have a string with a city and state. Something like:

$adr = "Dallas, TX";

How do I split this var into two vars: city and state? There will be different combinations but connected similarly with ", "

$city = "Dallas";
$state = "TX";

I should... For some reason I was looking for substr... Clearly took the false path.
