[RESOLVED] Unlink Warning: No such file or directory

I'm working from my localhost.

I'm trying to delete an image file when directed to from a form entry. I keep getting this error message:

Warning: unlink(/HWS/Erik/gallery/img/1244346941.jpg)

Code is as follows:

$sql = "SELECT image,location FROM $table WHERE id = $id";
$row = row($sql);
$photoLink = $rootPath."/".$row['location']."/img/".$row['image'];
$fp = unlink($photoLink);
if (!$fp) {
    $errorMessage .= "<h3 class=\"error\">Server Deletion Failed</h3>\n";
}

What am I doing wrong?

the warning says the file does not exist, does it?

On the page where the delete for is. I have a link to the file (same as in the unlink). I can click on that link and see the photo. I can try an is_file just before I try to unlink to see what I get.

Looks like another classic case of confusing URLs with paths.

The path beginning with '/HWS' says "look for a folder called HWS in the root of the hard drive." I highly doubt that the HWS folder you're after is in the root of the hard drive. Now, it might exist in the root of your website, but URLs don't necessarily tell you anything about the actual file path on the server.

Either use $_SERVER['DOCUMENT_ROOT'] to construct absolute paths beginning with the root of your website, or else use relative paths instead.

I was using virtual paths

"../gallery/img/image.jpg"

and changed it to the full path. That's when I started having problems. Also, I rebooted my computer and now it works. Oh well, go figure.

The "URL" to my code is at http://localhost/HWS/Erik/admin/photgallery.php. The photos are either in http://localhost/HWS/Erik/showcase/img/ or http://localhost/HWS/Erik/gallery/img/.

When I went back to virtual paths, everything started working again. Yes, I agree that I'm not too sharp on paths, but I think it would have been a lot easier/quicker to figure out if I was working this on a live server.
