enable /disable virtual hosts on windows

is there a quick way to enable /disable virtual hosts on windows?

I have virtual hosts set up under xammp so I have the directory as www.thesite.com
but sometimes its nice to be able to see the real live site and its really a pain to change the settings in windows hosts/ httpd-vhosts/ restart apache etc

the only way round it I can think of is to have a virtual windows running where one instance is plain windows

any other ideas?

I always set up my local virtual hosts as sub-domains of localhost, e.g. "http://thesite.localhost/" rather than giving it a "real" domain name. (I realize that does not directly answer your question, but just thought I'd put it out there for your consideration.)
