Sending automatic Mail

hi There everyone

I want to get a mail to be sent out to the administrator and customer once an order has been placed, Am using a paypal button for the entire cart. I need the code to pick up the item number from paypal and look in my order table to pick up the order then send out to the various people but am not sure of code to do this.
Am quite desperate to get this working if anyone can help i will be much appreciated.

thanks for the reply, I have go ipn working, but when the message goes out to our adminstrator the order details are blank. I need to somehow. take the item number thats comes back for that order and get the order details of my order table. i hope it make sense
