Data won't return from SQL when two backslashes in fieldname.

Hi,

I'm trying to pull data from a MS SQL Table.

Most fields are working fine but the ones with two forward slashes won't return data ;

$t001_level = $row["t1_t001/level.cv"] ; // this works
$t001_volume = $row["t1_t001/calc_vert_flat1/volume.cv"] ; // this doesn't

Any ideas?

No. But the error message hopefully has a fair idea of what's going on. One thing you could try though, is to SELECT your/annoyingly/long/slashseparated/and/misspellingprone/name AS usefulName, and then $row['usefulName']. Perhaps the issue will go away then.

Yes I know they are horribly long. It's an awfully old database that I've inherited.

I don't get an error, it just doesn't give a value for some reason.

If I select as (like you suggested) then the problem does go away but I have about 30 60 fields to select and the sql would end up huge!!

How about print_r($row) for the original SQL statement, to see what the array actually contains?

Also, you could go with $row[0], $row[1] etc. The code does suffer from lower readability, but the upside is saving you the work of the 60 AS ... parts.

Ah right okay, under PHP using MSSQL() the maximum length of a returned field name is 30 chars max.

That's why it wasn't returning the data.
