Array within post not sent

On most installations this functionality has no issues. But I've come across only a select few sites where the categories are not being posted. I'm not sure what the reason is but the checkboxes are selected at the time of posting.

Could it be a php setting?

Using print_r to check the post data results in the following;

Checkbox controls are only posted if they are checked, unlike other controls that might contain an empty string. As your print_r shows you, there is no such thing as a categories array key, hence nothing to foreach.

As I mentioned before but you may not have seen it. The checkboxes are checked at the time of posting.

Still this tells me otherwise:

How are they "selected". Javascript? If so, they should be "checked", not "selected".

They are checked because I moved the mouse over the checkbox and clicked. Which put a little tick in the checkbox.

I've been using the internet for a very long time and have been coding for a quite awhile. So I would like to think I'm not light headed in this department.
I'm asking this question because it happens on a select few websites (no more than 5) from the 30-40 people running the script. Yes, it's a select few but it is still an issue.

Now I know the foreach statement is expecting an array and that is why it is churning out an error because it has not received the array and I know the categories array is not within the post data.
It does not make sense to me which is why I came here. Because I though someone here may have come across this issue before or at least could let me know if it was a php setting or corrupt build.

If the checkbox was not checked at the time of posting then I would not be here asking this question.

All of which are things I did not previously know.

In that case, have you made sure that your checkboxes are inside the form being posted? And have you validated your HTML code.

Would anyone know if there is a bug in php 5.2.9 about this or has anyone experienced this with that version.

As it works fine in 5.2.5 but not 5.2.9
