ANSI escape sequences

I use ANSI escape sequences to colour PHP applications.

echo "\033[32m" . "Coloured green text";

Recently, I have needed to colour some windows PHP applications, and discovered this method does not work. Is there any way of making this method work? Or is there an alternative method? Or am I stuck without colour.

well that will work for command lines, I'm not sure what you are referring to with "windows PHP applications" if your creating anything for a web browser you will need to use html\css

echo '<p style="color:#00F">GREEN TEXT</p>';

Sorry, I didn't make myself clear enough. Windows command lines don't support ANSI, is there any method of using colour then? I know you can use Commands in C# to do it, so will I have to make a PHP extension? (Try and make)?

most window users don't even know they have a command line. The only way i know how to change the colour\font is with a registry key

I have no idea what sort of color support it has, but if you're looking at making stand-alone PHP apps (not web apps), you might want to look into the PHP-GTK extension.

According to the Windows Help documentation, it does if you install the ANSI device driver by adding the line "device=c:\windows\system32\ansi.sys" to C:\config.sys.

OMG, what a blast from the past! Remember when you had to go through all sorts of contortions with config.sys (and autoexec.bat, I think?) to get devices to work and that latest game to run? 🙂

I tried this, it is not working, as PHP is a 32bit application, and this only affects 16bit applications.
