Hopefully it is okay to ask about non-PHP things here?! 😕
Okay, so let me try to be as succinct as possible!
I am thinking of creating a website to track my favorite sports team and one feature I'd like to offer is an archive of old news artciles about my team, players, etc.
Creating links to current articles is easy, but the problem is how to tackle old articles.
Most websites take old content offline, so that would break links to older artciles.
Copying their content into my website and/or database would be an obvious no-no.
It is unlikely that this online newspapers would allow me to do that.
But there is one other option which relates to the thread title...
If YourLocalNewspaper.com has a news article which they later take offline, but in the mean-time, a site like Google "cached" that news article, I've never heard of YourLocalNewspaper.com suing Goggle for copyright infringement.
So, if I was able to "cache" old news articles on my webserver, would that be okay or not?
BTW, the motivation for this website is two fold...
1.) Provide a way for fellow sports fans to track and research their sports team present and past
2.) Compete with another popular site that went from a site about following my team to just making money through ad revenue, apid memberships, etc. 🙁
This potential site I am thinking about would be free, with no advertising and no fees.
I am hoping that there is some way to be able to provide old news articles online to fellow sports fans of my team and it fall under "Fair Use".
Maybe the Webpage Caching thing would help in that?
Any ideas???
