getting started with SOAP

I'm venturing into my first foray into SOAP, and really having trouble getting started. I've been combing through Google search results, looking through different tuturials and such for the last couple hours, an I can't seem to find something to get me started on the right path.

I'm very familiar with PHP (use it every day), and I have some experience with XML. For the project I'm working on now, I was told I should use SOAP to read information from another server, and do some inserts into the MySQL database on our end. Sure seems easy enough... you would think. But try as I may, I can't seem to find some good example(s) of how to do this sort of thing. I have a pretty decent conceptual idea of how SOAP and PHP will work, but I need to start actually DOING something now.

Any help?

I'm no specialist using SOAP. Like you I had hard time understanding it. Read through many articles, checked the SOAP manual. At the end of the day was so confused that I just had to start using it without understanding all of it. Glad I didnt have to setup SOAP server, just client! 🙂

Anyway, my point is this: It will probably take you lots of time learning SOAP. I dont know what kind of information you are transferring but if its simple stuff, use XML-RPC as its way more simple than SOAP.
