Alternative to input type = file

Hi All,
I am looking for an alternative to <input type="file"> for my site. I basically want the exact same functionality, except that a user clicks an image to bring up the "File Upload" dialogue box. I have been googling alternative to this for hours and reading threads but cant find the answer I need. Can someone please advise me on this or where I can get an example

In the end you have to use the upload box. You can try to disguise it somehow, but it's the only method.

It's to do with the fact that it's the only element that can access the local computer file system. As far as I know, it's quite tricky to style it as well, since it contains both a text box and a button.

What I would do is this, style the upload button to have:

-no border
-transparent background color
-dimensions of the image desired to display
-background image is the image you want to display

Hi All, thanks for the pointers. At first I tried restyling the box, as you all say EXTREMELY tricky. After hours of googling, I decided to go for a jquery solution which done the job - http://valums.com/ajax-upload/ in the end. Once created, I could then pass of to my php page. Hopefully that helps someone out,:
