Simple gallery solution

I'm working on a website for a client and I need a very basic photo gallery solution

1) Ability to add/delete photos to multiple albums

2) On the web site, depending on the page, load a certain album(s)

3) Show images modally (if that's a word) when clicked in page

I was wondering if using Flickr and their API would be a good choice for this (plus lightbox2 for the modal part: http://www.huddletogether.com/projects/lightbox2/) ?

I know there are solutions like coppermine, etc but they seem rather bulky for what I'm trying to do.

Any ideas/recommendations would be appreciated.

Flickr's API should work just fine. It's typically what we do sometimes at work when a client can't afford a fully fleshed-out gallery with all the bells and whistles.

Just make sure it all works and that you keep an eye on their API 😉

Yea, on matters of their API... Are they trying to provide an experience akin to sittin on a box of nails?

I spent a good hour playing in their sandbox.. I figured out quite a bit, but say for instance I wanted to get the url path of the image on the flickr server... I couldn't find that... I could get the page url where the image is displayed along with the rest of their site but not a direct url... Without that I can't really cache or generate thumbs, etc etc

lightbox2 works really nice by the way.... I'm using it on some place holder images and I was amazed that I didn't have to futz with it at all
