How much difference will it be, access local mysql or access remote mysql?
The database is not huge, thousands records for the biggest table. And the query results will be no more than hundreds.
I tested it, it is almost the same.
difference in what sense? speed will depend on the network connections between the remote server and the requesting script.
Wile local connections may go down, remote ones are more likely so that should be taken in to consideration.
