Problem writing RTF file

Hi all,

I'm having a problem writing an RTF format document to file. The document begins with the phrase {\rtf1. When this is written to the file, the \r portion of the phrase is translated to a carriage return, so the output to the file is:
{
tf1

Is there any way of stopping this happening? File is opened using fopen in mode w. I've tried using mode wb but the same problem occurs.

should work in a single quote

$foo='{\rtf1';

where as

$foo="{\rtf1";

will interpret the \r as a carriage return
