Sorting a range of dates using ORDER BY

I am pulling a set of data out of MySQL and one of the fields is a DATE field. Since the dates can cover the entire year what is the best way to sort the information since I have to present the data in chronological order?

dagon thanks for that - as a follow up question - I actually went to a few different websites trying to answer that question before this post. Is there a resource (webiste, book) that you would recommend to answer this type of question.

i have never read a php or mysql book, I far prefer the online manuals and other websites.
