Gathering and Displaying MySql Database Info using PHP.

Hi There,

I've been looking for a while now and I am a bit confused.
How do I grab certain bits of information from a MySql database and print it in a webpage. Also, How can I do this by search.

E.g.

I want to find All 'Cafe's' in 'London'.
I would want a drop down for the cafe's and a box which I can type into for the London part.

This should then go to the mysql database and find all the cafe's in London from my table.

Any Idea's, tutorials, advice etc would be greatly appreciated.

This search engine depends on how do you (want) to store these informations.
If you store the city - items_name - Item_Category in a single table, it is called: poor designed database model. But after a search on the internet, you can find tons of great articles , how to design this table in a better way.

Do you, or anyone have any advice for the code I would use to collect the relevant information from the database and then display it on my webpage for the user to easily read?
Any tutorials or code that anyone can explain? 🙂

as you noticed from the number of answers, this is quite a big project,
knowing that you might don't know how to modify a posted code.

i've got a code to build for example 4 fields, and use a search form for the user inputs. And this code has features such as results pager, sort by fields, user field remembers user inputs.

This code then needed to combined with listboxes, which retrive previously inserted values from the tables.

This search code you need gets about 10 minutes to make it work, if you know how to combine this two codes.
