At the risk of sounding like an idiot - does anyone know of a good blog tutorial? What I am trying to do is track daily notes that I write about students in a school. I want to be able to add/edit entries based on the students' names. So let's say on Oct 2: John W, Lisa F, and Jeff B were entered as an entry for the day. 2 months from now if I want to look up entries that mention Lisa F, I'd like everyone that has her name to show. I thought something like a blog would work best but I'm open to suggestions. I'm not programmer but I am familiar with PHP enough to understand a decent tutorial. I just need something basic but maybe going with Word Press would be better? Any help is appreciated

Considering the privacy involved this shouldn't be on the internet even secured, ans while you could wrote a php app and run a server on your machine im sure there's are more appropriate programs available. To run on you computer.

Thank you but I'm not sure what you mean. I can run this on a local machine - it's for my viewing only

ok, why do you want to do it in php in the first place? I suspect there's a few hundred applications suitable for this already written.

I want to use it to help me learn PHP. I'm not familiar with what applications I could use

I think it could be done easily with any spread sheet, but if you want to do it with php so be it; do you have php and a webserver installed on your machine?

If you have a local WAMP installation, there's no reason you could not run WordPress or anything else in that vein there. You might want to poke around at http://php.opensourcecms.com/ for other blogs, CMS's, etc. that might better suit your needs. I guess it all comes down to whether your priority is to get something in place that works, or if it is to use it as an excuse to learn PHP and web programming. If the latter, I don't know about blog-specific tutorials, but I would suggest that you start by honing your database skills: a good database design makes everything else easier.
