Anyone familiar with Help Center Live?

Apologies if this isn't the best forum to post, as there isn't a place for discussing 3rd party scripts...

I just installed the current Help Center Live (2.1.7) and it's working normally with a few exceptions. Is anybody here using this script and has experience debugging it? My company is using a web hosting provider, so it's difficult getting access to the PPH logs.

The main problem I'm seeing right now is broken Online and Offline icons. When I first logged in as admin, submitting the form in Settings -> Icons caused the online and offline icons to disappear. Similarly (and likely related), the Live Help icon for our web site is also broken. The hosting provider disabled safe mode (reflected in the config.php file), and I've experimented with different settings for the $conf['url'] variable, but short of working my way through the relevant code (which I'm doing now, although it will take a while as I'm new to PHP) or just reinstalling, I'm stuck.

Again, overall HCL runs as expected, so the problem would appear to be a minor path problem somewhere instead of a major configuration issue.

I am not familiar with the software but I can recommend this:

Browse the page(s) wher eyou see the broken link, right click it and click properties.

Take a look at the PATH and FILENAME in the URL for the image.

Copy & paste it into your browser, and see if the image works that way.

If its in a folder called /icons there MAY be some Virtual Folder or the sort associated with Apache, in fact I believe there is.

You can definitely tell if this is the case by removing the filename from the copied path & filename, and try to browse the folder.

You can also place an erroneous file (a readme.txt of sort) in that folder via FTP and try to access it.

You can tehn see if its a permission issue as well.

if it comes up 404, and you are sure that txt file is there, it must be a path problem.

If it comes up with an unauthorized, you may need to set folder permissions, which is dependent on the web server software.

Unfortunately, it's not so easy, as the image's "src" attribute isn't a hard-coded path, but a php script. I tried following it through the maze of scripts, but as I'm not currently so good with PHP, I gave up. My solution: I reinstalled everything, and now I'm staying very far away from the icon settings. 🙂 I also posted to the HCL help forum on their site, but am not sure when/if I'll get a reply.

On the bright side, I was able to fix two minor bugs in the script myself, so I'm slightly ahead of where I was earlier today.
