how to auto create <a> tags around main keywords

Hi everybody! sorry i guess the title is not pretty accurate about what i am gonna ask but that's the best title i could come up with : )

i have database with 1000 topics for instance and all i want is when someone submit new one ... the script place <a> tags around any keyword in this submitted text and keywords will be taken from database (topics titles)

let's say there is this text:

Eset Smart Security was rated as the best choice by Cnet editors

and there is a title in the database like this "Eset Smart Security"

so what the code does is search and replace all keywords in the submitted text that match one of the topics titles

well this could be done by any search and replace function like str_replace or ereg_replace or whatever

but when i thought about it! it would not be really wise to loop through the text 1000 times (each for one of the titles).
this will cause lots of load on the CPU .. but i could not really think of something better to do this without worrying about the CPU load.

The obvious problem with this idea is the question of what happens if and when the list of keywords changes.

It seems better to wait until the title is retrieved from the database and then look for keywords inside it.

thanks for the reply but i'm not sure i got what you meant by this

and about what happens if the list of titles were changed ... well it does not really matter it will apply to any yet to be submitted topics cos i think it would not be a good choice to update the whole database each and every time a new topic is submitted! that would be crazy i guess.

well what we could do is retrive the titles list from the database put them in an array and loop through them making a search and replace within the topic body ... but i thought this is too much for the CPU especially if this is running on shared webhosting server.

so is there more effecient way to do this?

titles table
keywords table

titles_keywords_connector table

on a new keyword you select the titles where this keyword is in, and add the titleID and keywordID in this connector table.

When you list the titles, you can search the related keywords and can filter them into unique, and then apply the str_replace() on the titles.
