Hi,

i am a university student who has decided to take on a website for my final year project. i havent done any PHP over my 3 years at uni and that is one of my reasons why i'd take up this challenge for my website. my website is basically an image gallery of photos. i have created the home page which is a mac doc style nav bar and created my images for the buttons. when you click on a folder (one of the images) i would like it to take you to another page which displays images very much like facebook does (something like 4 rows and 4 colums and having pages 1 2 3 etc at the bottom of the images) and when you click them the function lightbox appears.

i am very new to PHP and dont understand where to even begin, so far i have opened dreamweaver and wanted to connect to the ftp server which im pretty sure you need to do.

so when i manage sites on dreamweaver and in the tab 'remote info' i click the access dropdown menu and select ftp. the host i think is the server address. the host directory i dont know what to put into that textbox and login and password is very simple.

the details are as followed below:

• FTP Server: ftp.example.com
• FTP Server Port:

i would be really gratefull if someone could point me in the right direction on how to start making my gallery.

Note: I edited out the FTP credentials, as that is not something you should be making publicly available.

If you are looking for DreamWeaver usage info, this may not be the best forum for it, even though we do have a specific DreamWeaver sub-forum here.

As far as where to begin, personally I'd probably use an existing image gallery application as the basis, and then customize it as needed.

If you want to build it from scratch, where to start depends on your level of knowledge of PHP, database design and SQL, [X]HTML and CSS, JavaScript, etc.; plus the precise functional requirements you want to fulfill.

okay thanks. one more question is with these demos is it just literally adding the code into your website or is it an actual application?

You'll have to read the installation files/web pages for each to find the specifics, but essentially each will provide a set of PHP code you would copy to your site, plus various steps to set up the database (if applicable) and configure the application settings for your particular use. (You will need a web host that supports PHP (and possibly particular versions) and probably MySQL or some other DBMS.
