Forms & Sessions - form acts weird

Hi guys,

I'm having a weird problem with forms & sessions ...

I have registration form with 2 pages, so let's say first page contains inputs like Username, Password etc. , second page is some personal information.

I've created pretty normal form for first page with few inputs, works no problem at all. I've decided to do it using sessions.

Now here's the problem:

If I'm on the second page, and want to go back to change something (I've created normal img button with hyperlink to first page) - I can't (change, not go back 😉 ). All the data I've entered is displayed in the fields properly (I mean all the fields contain data I've entered), but when I want to make a change - doesn't send new values. It sends me to second page with all the fields unchanged. How is that possible ?

that will be the changed value

then

$_SESSION['nick'] = $nick; //..and make a new one with new d

will need to be

 $_SESSION['nick'] = $_POST['nick']; //..and make a new one with new d

I would try a session_write_close() before giving up control.

no need for that unless there is any reason to close the session before your script ends (session will be written before exiting the script automatically)

Guys, again strange problem .........

After filling that form, I've noticed that it adds mulptiple records to the database ! Sometimes adds one record (when everything is blank);
sometimes 3 multiple (same) records;
sometimes 2 multiple (same) records;
sometimes 3 multiple records but only the first one is filled, two others are blank

BUT - when it adds multiple records, they are all with the same date (I have 'now()' setup to add a date to each record).

Everytime I press submit, i get different result. Any ideas what could be causing that guys ??

this is the code from the last step:

since your not using $_GET[step] but just $step, you must have the dangerously evil Register Globals set to on. I wouldn't take another step with out fixing that

there seems no obvious reason for the issue, but making username unique on the db should stop it, and should be done anyway, and your script is open to sql injection, at the least use mysql_real_escape_string() on all input in to the db, and you shouldn't be storeing the password as plain text.

You're right actually. I have to turn them off. So should i just replace $step1 with $GET[step1] etc.... ? like

if($_GET[step1]) { etc.....

Will it work even if I have POST method in form ? And what action should the form take,

I've just set unique on nick, but it sometimes inputs 1 proper record + 2 empty ones, so it doesn't work ... I've set date as unique istead of nick as well, but when i press submit on the last page i get mysql error .... Why the hell is it doing it anyway ? I'm going mad ...

Thanks for the advice with real-escape. I will incorporate it. Also I know that password shouldn't be stored as a plain text, I just haven't done that yet🙂

I've changed it this way:

if($_POST['step']=="") {
<form action="registration.php"><input type="hidden" name="step" value="2">

}

etc .....

It's working, but please correct me if that isn't safe either.
