Custom author page in Wordpress prob

Goal
build an author page that sorts and displays post titles link by category for selected author.

I am almost there
currently printing each category heading with all posts titles by the selected author

Remaining problem - empty category heading are still displayed. was thinking that a more specific if statement at the have_post function

First Section Prints Author Bio at top

This may change as I test potential approaches but shows the problem for now.

I am trying to get the if statement to skip printing the category heading if there are no posts by the current author in that category. you can see the issue in the link in the starting post

One little syntax issue.
I do not think this will solve anything
but ....

if($thm_authorinfo == 'true' & !is_paged())
// should be
if($thm_authorinfo == 'true' && !is_paged())

I should try to see what have_posts() actually RETURNS.
Because this is important if use it in one IF statement.

thanks for the syntax correction, it did not change the outcome though.

I should try to see what have_posts() actually RETURNS.

It returns true; there are posts in all of the categories. I need to get the statement to return true only if there are posts by the curauth in the category then print the category header and post titles by the current author.

the idea is to only print the category header if there are posts in the category by the current author ie .../author/abby
