[RESOLVED] unable to get debugging to work in Eclipse PDT 2.0

Hello, I have spent an entire day trying to get debugging to work in the Eclipse PHP Development tools 2.0. I have tried using the bundled Zend Debugger (bundled with the Zend Debugger extension for Eclipse) as well as XDebug. I am using XAMPP as my development server (which comes with XDebug).

I have both set the zend_extension = "C:\xampp\php\ext\php_xdebug.dll" and unset it. This should listen on port 9000 but I get a server error when setting localhost:9000 in eclipse. As well as when using the default setting in eclipse, which is simply localhost.

I have yet to try setting the zend_extension for the Zend Debugger, as the Zend plugin for eclipse has a bundled php interpreter that it is SUPPOSED to use. However, the default settings do not work when I try to use this debugger.

I need help! I'm not sure what else to tell you.

I have started debugging sessions due to these steps.

However, whenever I start a new debugging session, none of the variables are visible, all of my break points are ignored, and I am unable to step into code. But, when I stop the debugging session, it lets me know that it has ended - in other words, it was indeed started, just no variables or break points.

I would be happy to use either of these debuggers, if I could just get them to work. I seem to be getting closest to what I need with XDebug, but I am still not there. Does anyone have an idea what is wrong or what else I can do?

The following php.ini settings needed to be set explicitly:

xdebug.remote_enable=1
xdebug.remote_host="localhost"

xdebug.remote_port=9000
xdebug.remote_handler="dbgp"

It's worth noting that the fix involved downloading a new copy of XDebug, rather than using the one included with XAMPP. Heads up if you are in the same server environment.
