Shipping Integration

Hi i am web developer and i am looking to integrate shipping capabilities into my websites. These websites will then be resold. I would like to integrate all the major shipping providers like fedex, ups and DHL. How does one do that? Do I have to open up an account with them first? I am based outside the USA(jamaica to be exact). May be there is tutorial that could explain the process for me. Thanks.

You will have to check with each company if they have some kind of interface for automating the process, such as http post or wsdl/soap. If they do, there is a high probability that you need an account, and they should be able to provide all the information you need to make use of their service.

Appreciate the response. I have tried filling out that "My UPS" registration form online but I can't because my country is not listed in the dropdown menu. Thus, I can't enter my complete address. Fedex seems like its gonna take a while at least a month to know if I am eligible or not. Also had a bunch of questions for my customers.

DHL is looking like the winner to me but I haven't tried registering yet.

I had no idea that setting up vrtuemart shipping would be such a hassle.

You should be able to register for their developer tools fairly quickly and easily. And more than likely, most of the API documentation is open-sourced somewhere on the web if you search hard enough for it.

I know the following shippers provide an interface:
USPS
UPS
DHL
FedEx

Although, DHL seems like it's on it's way out in the U.S.
