str_replace() problem with non latin charater.

echo str_ireplace('་','-', 'ས་སི་ང་');

with above code I am expecting output as -> ས-སི-ང-
On my local Xamp server with php 5.2.6 its working. but on my host server with php 5.2.12 its not working, it out puts only -------. Can you please help me what is wrong, or is it a bug!

Your server may be outputting a content-type header by default that specifies a single-byte character set. If so, it might be fixed simply by adding a header() at the start of your script to change it to UTF-8:

header('Content-Type: text/html; charset=UTF-8');
