[RESOLVED] .htpasswd problems - driving me crazy

Hi, i have recently installed amember pro.

When I try and sign up as a new user I get error saying cannot write to .htpasswd, make sure its writable.

I have been through and made all the right files writable with 777 but I am still seeing this error.

when I go into the data file. the files .htpasswd - .htgroup - .htaccess are not there. when I upload new ones, they vanish too.

What am I doing wrong. I havent messed with any files as im a noob and dont mess with things i dont understand/or cant undo.

Is there a simlpe solution.
Its driving me mad.

Check that the /directory/ where you try to write has correct permission.
But I suppose you have already.

Here is something from the Manual:

It happened because your hosting or you changed permissions for some files in aMember folder. These files (.htpasswd and .htgroup) are hidden if you open it using FTP client, so please use your webhosting control panel file manager. Do the following:

login into your webhosting control panel;

open webhosting control panel file manager;

open folder "amember", then open folder "data"

if there are files exists : ".htpasswd" and ".htgroup", chmod these files to 666 (read and write allowed for all)

if there are no ".htpasswd" and ".htgroup" files exists in "data" folder, chmod folder to 777 (read, write and execution allowed for all)

then click to aMember Control Panel -> Rebuild Db, it should work without any error messages.

it was my ftp program.

I had changed file permissions on there but it hadnt changed the hidden ones.

Had to go to server to do it.
