[RESOLVED] file_get_contents garbling text file

I am opening a text file that I created with notepad using the function file_get_contents.

The resulting string has a bunch of asian and block characters added. Does anyone know the correct way to put this file into a string without the text being altered.

Here is the copy and pasted contents of the text file:

Copying-and-pasting doesn't do us much good, since the forum will handle the encoding properly (whereas your script is not, apparently).

Try attaching the file to your next post so we can examine its contents right at the source.

i think even notepad can read\write utf8 now, so check its settings.

The file you attached was written with the "Unicode w/ BOM" encoding.

As such, if you output its contents on a page via PHP, you either need to a) ensure that you're using a unicode character set (e.g. utf-8), or b) convert the data to an encoding appropriate for the character set you're using.

EDIT: Just to clarify, the file's contents you attached was encoded as: "UTF-16 Little Endian with Byte Order Mark (BOM)".

Saving the file as type text file rather than as type unicode file seems to have done the trick. Thanks!
