Quick register_globals question . . .

If register_globals = Off, will an array created in a while{ } such as below be empty/unset/destroyed outside of the while{ }? If so, would I have to explicitly declare it as a global inside the while{} or maybe set $_SESSION with values I need later in the script?

$query = "Some arbitrary query";
$result = mysqli_query($dbc, $query);
while ( $array = mysqli_fetch_assoc['$result'] ) {
echo( "Filling my table with crap..." );
}
// Is $array toast at this point?

[man]register_globals[/man] has nothing to do with it.

In this case, once the loop is complete, $array will not be an array, it will be boolean false, as that is what mysql_fetch_array() returns when there are no more result rows.

Sounds like you're thinking of C++, where a variable declared inside of a loop structure exists only while inside that loop. PHP, however, does not have this type of local scope for loop structures.

The reason I was asking, as silly as it sounds, is I noticed register_globals = On on my dev server. I changed it, and something went bad while executing a file with a while loop in it. Naturally, I assumed it was the change to register_globals that caused the problem.

It turned out I spotted an extra character in the array name when I looked at it again this morning. It seems I must have hit a key while I had the file open in Zend, then saved it with the rest of what was being edited. My first thought should have been to set register_globals back to ON, but as they say, hindsight is always 20/20.
