How to Search Text Inside Attachments in a Database

Does anyone know if it's possible to search for text inside file attachments in a database? I have a database where I attach .pdfs (either OCR'd or readable text), Excel Documents, Word Documents, etc. and would like to be able to search for keywords in the documents.

Any ideas? My Google search came up with nothing.

if they are stored as binary blobs then it cant be done

How would they need to be stored to accomplish this? Do you have a resource somewhere where I could find more information?

word\excel\pdf are a binary format, you need tools that can read that file type (word\excel).
