I need to come up with an idea for my final year project and think I have found something that fills a void, whilst at my current University I play American Football and at my last University played Rugby, in both sports I found that having an interactive website was a key factor in the motivation and feeling of value within a team, therefore keeping a better retention rate across the season.
For this reason I have been looking to develop a new website for my AF team, whilst researching what was required I could not find any open source scripts that were easily integrated into a custom design (without the use of standardised templates or excessive features), most were to either to basic or to complicated.
A few years ago I programmed a basic script for a University rugby team that worked really well (like a very very basic version of myPHPSport).
The script at the moment features;
- login system with unique levels of permissions and access
- news system, editing and posting
- player profiles (customisable stats and photos)
- match summary/reporting and statistics
One of my key areas of study is human interaction and usability evaluation, the project aim would be to provide a script that with limited programming knowledge would allow a user to integrate this script into a design of their choice, following well written guides and a well researched and programmed user interface.
I would appreciate your thoughts on the idea, I appreciate it is basic in features but I believe it is well within my skill set, timeframe and would as I have already experienced myself provide a solution to many amateur sports teams.
