how do i remove black border from GD image?

You will notice that there is a black border around the right and bottom of the photo?

i have the dimensions of the photo is there anyway to get php to make anything outside of those dimensions transparent?

Sure, fill anything outside those dimensions with a color not used in the image, and then use [man]imagecolortransparent/man to make that color transparent.
