Now playing radio schedule

Hello, I am relatively new to PHP and MySQL but have been really trying to get involved and learn.

I am currently building a site for a local radio station. I need to produce some text that would display what is currently playing.

This would come from a database with information such as
Presenter
Show name
Show description
Day of show
Times of show

The text on the webpage would then correspond to the current time and show the schedule of the time from the database.

I really dont know where to start with this, I know how to set up the database and tables its just im not sure how to show this on the page. Would really appreciate some help.

Here's an example of the sort of thing you might do ...

$mysql_result = mysql_query($SQL);

PS. But use mysqli functions if you can, rather than (older) mysql functions.

thanks for your reply. But there wont be a form being submitted so wont need to use $_post. it will simply be text saying what is now playing and that text corresponds to the time of a show within the database?

No, I wasn't suggesting how your site works, I was merely demonstrating how you might access and display data as per ...

thanks. But yeah i know how to display data on a page. But I just dont know how to display it corresponding with the current time and the time within the database??

Unless I'm completely misunderstanding you - you could look up the date/time functions in the manual to find out how to get the current time (now(), I think) and compare it to the values of records in your database. That should tell you which details to display.

If this is something you want to continually update, like a scrolling "Now Playing" message, as long as the page is displayed in a browser, without the user hitting refresh, you may want to look into using Javascript/JQuery/AJAX or something along those lines. If it's just a static schedule that covers an extended period of time, then php and db queries should be fine.
