Need some security tips

What are some steps I can take to ensure top security? It's using php4 so that's not a good start but it's only capable with 4 and I'm pretty firm on using this software instead of others.

Just things to prevent hacking, or add some stuff to beef up prevention..

As I told you in another thread: If you are truly interested in security, then you are better off switching to a different host or getting the host to upgrade to PHP 5 and disable register globals for you.

It just won't work on php5. There are no fixes that people have come up with in php4 times that would still benefit me at all?

What do you mean by "It just won't work on php5"? Why not change it, so that it does work?

Ohter than that you can play around with:

ini set

and with .htaccess directives.

But none of those are actually worth the effort, if you really need high security (PHP5 would still be wiser)

As Bjom suggested, a more forward thinking approach is to fix it to work on PHP 5.

Unfortunately, security is a matter of the weakest link, which is why it is usually a good idea to use something that is updated and under active maintenance.

In any case, you can read the PHP manual's section on security.
