[RESOLVED] Question about displaying database results

Hello all,

I'm in the process of making a fantasy sports game. I have user teams details held in a database. I'm using phpmyadmin and sql. I have displayed the teams details in a league table in order so the team with the most points are at the top.

What i would like to do is in the table put the teams rank next to the team. e.g

Pos Team Points
1 Team 1 30
2 Team 2 20
3 Team 3 10

Currently i don't have the Pos (Position) column.

There are a few different leagues on the site each containing a different number of teams.

Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated

I don't need to store the rank number in the database i just would like to display it on the pages that show the league standings

Sounds like all you need is a simpler counter variable then. Example:

$sql = 'SELECT Team, Points FROM myTable ORDER BY Points DESC';
$exec = mysql_query($sql);

$i=1;
while($row = mysql_fetch_assoc($exec)) {
echo 'Team ' . $row['Team'] . ' has a rank of ' . $i++ . ' with ' . $row['Points'] . ' points!<br>';
}
